Elderly woman dies in motor vehicle collision in St Ann


An elderly woman is dead, while at least eight other persons were injured, following a two-vehicle collision along the North South Highway, in Mammee Bay, St Ann on Thursday afternoon, May 12.
The woman has been identified as 69-year-old Icilda Wilmot of Ocho Rios, St Ann.
The accident occurred at around 2:30 pm, in the vicinity of the highway roundabout in Mammee Bay in the parish.
Reports are that a white Toyota motor car was being driven along the North South Highway, from Claremont towards Mammee Bay.
The driver of the car was allegedly speeding, and lost control of the vehicle, which collided into the back of a Toyota Hiace mini bus after they failed to negotiate a corner.
The impact reportedly caused the bus to overturn.
Four people travelling in the motorcar received injuries and were taken to the hospital.
In the meantime, five persons travelling on the bus, were also taken to hospital, where the female passenger, was pronounced dead on arrival.
