Federation chairman encouraged by plans to bolster police legal defence fund


Chairman of the Police Federation Raymond Wilson says he is encouraged by statements made by the Security Minister Robert Montague who says he intends to provide further monetary assistance to police involved in legal matters related to work.
The minister made the pronouncement during his address at the Police Federation’s 73rd Annual Central Conference at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort and Spa in Montego Bay, St James.
The event is being held under the theme: Reinforcing Partnerships through Motivation and Quality Service.
The minister was reported as saying he was planning to look at ways how his ministry could strengthen the legal defence fund, in order to better assist officers brought before the courts on certain matters.
Montague also said the National Security Ministry would also looking to see how it could  address the safety and security concerns of JCF personnel, including transportation to and from work.
“I am really happy that the minister made a public commitment regarding these two issues,” said Chairman of the Police Federation, Sergeant Raymond Wilson in an interview with Loop News.
Delegates from police divisions island-wide will be attending the two-day conference, which official launched on Wednesday, May 11.
Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams and Opposition Spokesman on National Security Peter Bunting also attended the event.
