Hot Topic: ‘Sleep well Faye Jacobs’ – readers react to suicide of former politician

Sadness and disbelief were the tones of most conversations on Monday as many awoke to the confirmation of death of former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for Central Westmoreland Faye Reid Jacobs.
News of Reid-Jacobs’ death was confirmed by the police who said that the former politician allegedly committed suicide by “injecting a substance into her body”.
She was found by relatives around 6:30 pm on Sunday, May 8 at her Mountainside Boulevard, Long Mountain, St Andrew home.
All throughout the day, Jamaicans across social media used the opportunity to pay the respects to someone described as a hard worker and all-in-all good person.
Gretel Ingram-Smith wrote, “Very sad, may her soul rest in peace. OMG, what could have gone so wrong for [her] to do such a horrible thing[?]”
“I don’t believe, not the Faye I see every day and know...I refuse to believe this. Pleasant and jovial Faye? Nope…This not resting too well with me at all...” said Kerena Russell.
Shayne Fairman contended: “I really think Jamaica has been overtaken by demons and demon influences!”
The cohort of the JLP expressed shock at Jacob-Reid’s tragic passing, as according to party General Secretary Horace Chang, “This is totally unexpected. She was an important member of the party; committed to the principles and vision of the party.”
