1.    According to Linguistic, the first word of an infant often sounds like "ma" or "mama". This strong association of that sound with the word "mother" has persisted in nearly every language.
2.    During pregnancy, moms and babies exchange cells through the placenta. These cells can persist in the mother’s body for years.
3.    An elephant mother gives birth to the largest baby on Earth .After 22 months of pregnancy, an elephant  gives birth to a blind, 200-pound elephant.
4.    Local restaurateurs in Jamaica, note that Mother’s Day is the year’s most popular day for eating out.
5.    Approximately 1.2% of all children live with a stepmother in the United States.
6.    Sporting a colored carnation on Mother’s Day means that a person’s mother is living. A white carnation means that a person’s mother has passed away.
7.    Scientists believe that the hormones that flood the brain during pregnancy can lead to permanent alterations in mothers.
8.    In Canada, working moms get a year’s maternity leave. In Cuba, new moms get 6 months maternity leave with full salary.
9.    Former communist countries usually celebrate the socialist International Women's Day instead of the more capitalist Mother's Day.
10.    To date, the oldest woman to deliver a baby is Satyabhama Mahapatra, a 65-year-old retired schoolteacher in India. She delivered a baby boy on April 9, 2003. However, the eggs were donated by her 26-year-old niece.
