Fearful West Kingston residents cry for street lights
Residents say the call is urgent especially with the waging battle that is now taking place with criminals in the area.
"We believe this is a situation that needs urgent attention; the place is so dark we can hardly see when we are traveling through the community," said one female resident.
"The area is not made up of criminals; law abiding citizens who are paying their bills are in the area and we believe it is unfair for us to suffer with those who break the law," added a male resident.
Police have also joined the call.
"What the residents are saying is true; the area is in need of more street lights - many times, police are hampered in carrying out their operation because the place is not properly lit," one senior policeman from Darlin Street Police station told Loop News.
And even vendors are complaining.
"The place need more street lights. If there are no lights; this is what the criminals want; they are using dark areas to hide and carry out their illegal activities and this has to be addressed," said one vendor who operates in the Coronation Market.
