Investigations ongoing into fire at Brown's Town Market

There has been no determination made into what led to Tuesday morning’s fire at the Brown’s Town Market.
A team from the St Ann Parish Council and the Brown's Town Fire Department is still conducting a preliminary assessment of the damage.
Twenty-five stalls were damaged and an undetermined amount of goods destroyed by the fire, which was said to be confined to the lower section of the market.
Reports are that the fire started shortly after 6 o'clock on the upper level of the market where clothing items are sold. However, the fire was quickly brought under control. The cause has not yet been determined.
A vendor, who gave her name as Hyacinth Golding, explained that most of her items were damaged and she is hoping for early compensation to restart her business.
However, a highly placed source in the St Ann Parish Council has said that vendors are not to keep any wears in the market overnight and therefore, should stand the cost of any damages to their products.
Vendors are now removing whatever items that survived the fire so that the market can be washed.
Fire also damaged the Brown’s Town market in 2011.
