ODPEM: Flash flood warning remains for eastern Jamaica
The ODPEM has received reports of flooding and landslides in the parish of St Thomas and flooding in Portland on Tuesday, May 24.
Reports from St Thomas indicate that flooding occurred in the communities of Morant Bay, Golden Grove, Hampton Court, Hardely Crossing and Cheswick; causing roads to become impassable.
The communities of Crockett and Pear Tree River also reported instances of landslides. One person lost their life in the incident.
Reports from Portland also indicate that intermittent showers and strong winds accounted for flooding and damage to houses, agricultural crops and blocked roadways due to fallen trees.
The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has advised that light to moderate showers occurred across sections of all parishes last night into this morning. The forecast is for periods of light to moderate and at times heavy showers and thunderstorms to affect most parishes, particularly Portland, St Mary and St Ann today.
