Traffic changes for Half-Way Tree Road, Oxford Road intersection

Major changes in traffic arrangements are in the making for one of the busiest intersections in the city of Kingston.
The National Works Agency (NWA) has advised that the changes, which will take effect on Tuesday, will involve adjustments to the traffic flow at the intersection of Half-Way Tree Road and Oxford Road in St Andrew.
NWA Communications Manager Stephen Shaw said the traffic changes are geared at improving pedestrian and vehicular movements at the intersection.
"What we are going to be doing is facilitating two lanes turning right from Half-Way Tree Road onto Oxford Road. We are also going to be ensuring that pedestrians also have a safer passage going through that particular intersection; so too, persons who do business at FLOW Jamaica, (who want) to get into that facility and get out," he said.
Shaw said the plan, which will be permanent, will involve the implementation of updated traffic signals at the intersection.
The NWA has also embarked on measures to improve congestion at a number of other busy intersections across the capital city, Shaw indicated.
"We have been improving a number of intersections, we have signalised new ones, we have taken out old systems, putting in new systems, (and) we are widening as we have done at this particular intersection," he said.
"So congestion management is part and parcel of what we do, and we're always looking to improve the flow of traffic in and around the city," Shaw declared.
