Justice today for Haitian girl trafficked to Jamaica and raped

The St Elizabeth man — who was convicted in June on human trafficking charges regarding a 14-year-old Haitian girl he enslaved and raped — will be sentenced in the Home Circuit Court today.
Rohan Ebanks will be sentenced along with his common-law wife Venoshia Reid.
The 47-year-old fisherman was convicted on charges of trafficking in person and rape.
Reid had pleaded guilty on the first day of the trial to a count of facilitating human trafficking.
The prosecution led evidence that Ebanks used the girl over a three-year period as his household helper, that he physically assaulted and raped her before she was rescued in 2013.
Ebanks met the girl and her mother in 2010 after travelling to Haiti by boat.
He took the teen to Jamaica illegally after promising her mother that she would be sent to school, a promise he never kept.
